{"id":191,"date":"2014-12-04T06:07:18","date_gmt":"2014-12-04T06:07:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sdmxn.com\/sdMXNblog\/?p=191"},"modified":"2015-03-14T21:59:04","modified_gmt":"2015-03-14T21:59:04","slug":"ebb-flow-taco-shop-locations-part-1-robertos-taco-shop-leaves-miramar-road","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/sdmxn.com\/sdMXNblog\/ebb-flow-taco-shop-locations-part-1-robertos-taco-shop-leaves-miramar-road\/","title":{"rendered":"The Ebb and Flow of Taco Shop Locations Part 1: Roberto&#8217;s Taco Shop Leaves Miramar Road"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I never thought I would see the day when Miramar Road would no longer have a\u00a0Roberto&#8217;s. \u00a0For at least 10 years (late 1990&#8217;s through 2012) Miramar Road was home to two Roberto&#8217;s Taco Shops located less than a mile apart from each other:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_217\" style=\"width: 306px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sdmxn.com\/sdMXNblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/RobertosMiramarSDMXN.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-217\" class=\"wp-image-217 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/sdmxn.com\/sdMXNblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/RobertosMiramarSDMXN-300x148.png\" alt=\"Robertos-Roberto's Miramar SDMXN\" width=\"300\" height=\"148\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sdmxn.com\/sdMXNblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/RobertosMiramarSDMXN-300x148.png 300w, http:\/\/sdmxn.com\/sdMXNblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/RobertosMiramarSDMXN-1024x504.png 1024w, http:\/\/sdmxn.com\/sdMXNblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/RobertosMiramarSDMXN.png 1570w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-217\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Two Roberto&#8217;s used to be less than 1 mile apart<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I have no idea why you would need two of the same restaurant less than a mile apart, especially when Miramar Road is already heavily saturated with Taco Shops. \u00a0However, these two Roberto&#8217;s were both open 24 hours and tended to cater a lot to many UCSD students.<\/p>\n<p>The odd thing about these two Roberto&#8217;s was that the food was very different between the two restaurants and each Roberto&#8217;s featured its own different salsas, prices, and specials. \u00a0For what it&#8217;s worth, I preferred the Distribution Ave. location and was sorry to see it close; however I also visited the Commerce avenue location on a number of occasions.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Distribution Avenue Roberto&#8217;s closed and reopened as a <a title=\"Rigoberto's Miramar Road\" href=\"http:\/\/sdmxn.com\/?q=business\/taco-shops\/rigobertos-taco-shop\" target=\"_blank\">Rigobertos<\/a>:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_229\" style=\"width: 306px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sdmxn.com\/sdMXNblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/IMG_2861.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-229\" class=\"wp-image-229 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/sdmxn.com\/sdMXNblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/IMG_2861-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"New Rigoberto's Replaced Roberto's\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sdmxn.com\/sdMXNblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/IMG_2861-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/sdmxn.com\/sdMXNblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/IMG_2861-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-229\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rigoberto&#8217;s Taco Shop<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Then, within about a year of the Distribution Avenue Roberto&#8217;s closing, the Commerce Avenue Roberto&#8217;s also shut down and became <a title=\"Donat's Taco Shop\" href=\"http:\/\/sdmxn.com\/?q=business\/taco-shops\/donatos\" target=\"_blank\">Donato&#8217;s<\/a> Taco shop:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_218\" style=\"width: 306px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sdmxn.com\/sdMXNblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_2871.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-218\" class=\"wp-image-218 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/sdmxn.com\/sdMXNblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_2871-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Donato's SDMXN.com\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sdmxn.com\/sdMXNblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_2871-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/sdmxn.com\/sdMXNblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_2871.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-218\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Donato&#8217;s in Old Roberto&#8217;s Location<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Both Taco shops feature the same decor, mostly the same menu, and even some of the same staff&#8211;so I guess you can say the spirit of both Roberto&#8217;s lives on. \u00a0In fact, the sign out front of the Commerce Avenue location still reads &#8220;Roberto&#8217;s Taco Shop&#8221;:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_220\" style=\"width: 306px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sdmxn.com\/sdMXNblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_2873.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-220\" class=\"wp-image-220 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/sdmxn.com\/sdMXNblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_2873-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"SDMXN.COM Roberto's Miramar\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sdmxn.com\/sdMXNblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_2873-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/sdmxn.com\/sdMXNblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_2873-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-220\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Old Roberto&#8217;s Sign (Donato&#8217;s now)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>My guess is that Miramar road gradually became too saturated with Taco Shops and that prompted the Roberto&#8217;s to go ahead and close up both locations and focus efforts on busier locations in less saturated neighborhoods.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I never thought I would see the day when Miramar Road would no longer have a\u00a0Roberto&#8217;s. \u00a0For at least 10 years (late 1990&#8217;s through 2012) Miramar Road was home to two Roberto&#8217;s Taco Shops located less than a mile apart from each other: &nbsp;
