Taco Express is a down town San Diego taco shop affectionately known as "the Cage" because the few seats the restaurant offers it's patrons are located immediately adjacent to the restaurant in an area enclosed by a chain link fence with barbed wire at the top. The food here is excellent and very well priced. The specials, some of which include a can of soda, are usually amazing deals. If you like carnitas, the carnitas special here is a must try. Taco Express is a cash only restaurant with no salsa bar. The only salsa offered is house salsa made with red chili peppers that some people will find too hot, but that compliments the food well. Taco Express is very popular with city employees and jurors during the weekdays, so don't count on getting a seat at one of the few tables within the cage. If you call in your order you can pick it up through a side window without having to wait in line at the counter inside the restaurant.
