El Indio is a very well known San Diego Mexican food joint that was founded in 1940 (it moved to the current location in 1947). El Indio is very popular with both San Diego residents and tourists, so lines can get very long during the Summer and during the lunch and dinner rush. Although the lines moves quickly, getting parking and a seat will be difficult during peak hours. El Indio does offer outside seating across the street (across India street), but the outdoor seating usually fills up quickly.
If you know what you like and want a good value, go with the daily special. The combination plates also offer good values, with prices hovering around $1.50 higher than similar items at a place like Roberto's. With that said, El Indio offers relatively large portions. The meat, pork, and chicken at El Indio are flavorful and not too spicy. The tortillas are excellent as well. This is definitely a restaurant you should try if you love Mexican Food.

Good Daily Specials
This place gets a lot of hype because it's been around forever and it's in a high traffic location. Most of the food here is pretty good, but not particularly amazing. Prices for most dishes tend to be on the higher side for a taco shop, but then again the portions are pretty generous. El Indio is worth trying if you like Mexican food and haven't gone. It's also convenient if it's late and you're just getting out of the Aero Club or Shakespeare's. It's much easier to get served and seated here than across the street at Luche Libre.
